Hanging a Corner Shelf in the Shower

I used to have one of those cool shelves in the corner of my shower on an extension pole. But it was getting rusty. Leaving rust on the soap. Not wanting to replace it with something that would rust out again in 5-6 years, and given the fact the tub wall is fibreglass and not wanting to put holes in it, I started searching for a replacement. I found this corner shelf at Ikea, but had no idea how to hang it. I tried hanging it with those 3M Command hooks, but the weight was too much when the shelf was loaded. Then I thought about the Bygel rail system at Ikea. I use it in my other bathroom. But they don't make a bygel to go around corners. But not deterred,
I bought one rail, bent it 45 degrees around a piece of pipe, and hung it on the wall above the fibreglass wall of my tub/shower, Add a couple of "S" hooks, problem solved!

Burien Pet Adoption Center!

I am so happy to be getting a new home!

Well the good news is that after almost a year, Burien, which has opted to do their own animal control and fire the county, now has a Pet Adoption Center, right near my home! The new center is located at 13622 First Ave South., and is open Monday through Saturday, with the exception of tuesdays.

According to their website:Burien Animal Care & Control is proud to announce the opening of its new Adoption Center at 13622 1st Ave S. in Burien. The new location provides space for housing cats and kittens in individual and communal spaces, as well as a small medical and treatment area for routine care and surgical sterilization of all pets adopted. A small retail space will also allow for the sale of gently used and new pet products with all proceeds benefiting the animals being housed at the center.
Burien Animal Care & Control will continue to subcontract with local boarding facilities to shelter stray and adoptable dogs. All pets available for adoption can be viewed online at PetFinder.com. Search for “Burien Animal Care & Control”.
The Burien Animal Care & Control Adoption Center is open Monday, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Saturdays, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The center is closed Tuesdays and Sundays. DIY DAY BED

Well the studio transformation is continuing. I had to get rid of my old couch- it was falling apart- literally. So I saved the cushions and put them on a foldaway bed I had. Now if I get some type of cover for the bottom part I will have a DIY day bed! Off to the thrift shop~

Goodbye Ol' Paint

What a week! Most of my free time was spent turning this:

Into this:

The color is called "Straw" from Ace Hardware. I was going to practice what I preach and do the rental thing and rent a paint sprayer but at the last minute decided to bring out the rollers and brushes and do it by hand. And it sure brightened up this once dark space. And it is true that paint truly can perform miracles... it took a once dark space cave and makes it seem like a bigger warmer space. I now have a nice bright studio to work in, and almost everything in it is re-purposed from somewhere in the house.

Viva Terre Shelf Knock Off!

I love this shelf from Viva Terre. But it has a cost of $169.00!!! OMG! There is no way I can justify that kind of money. So whats a fabously stylish guy to do? Hack his own! I went to Ikea and found these Omar baskets for the omar shelving system at $10 a piece, and the Fabian shelf for $6.99 I mounted the Omar baskets onto the fabian shelf, using some 1" wood screws and fender washers. The result is a shelf that not only resembles the Wire shelf from Viva Terre, it does it for less than a quarter of the price at $26.99. Triumph! I also added the hooks below the shelf, something found around the house to finish the knock off

Another Vertical Garden

Another vertical garden- this time via Green Roof Growers, this one uses pallets and gallon milk jugs. read more about it here.
