So what's happening with the Dog Park?

Photo: B-Town Blog

New news... The Burien off-leash dog park recently became the receiver of some great monetary gifts... First up was Burien Toyota/Burien Chevrolet who ponied up $10,000 , than Purina Beneful dog food surprised us with $20,000. You may remember, Kellie Bassen, head of the B-Town Dog Owners Group, was a finalist in the 2013 Beneful Dream Dog Park contest, and Beneful did not forget the video that Kellie sent in and they wanted to help. Next up, we need to have the council "speed up" the process so ground can be broken, new fences put up. The B-Town DOG group is planning on going to the city council, meeting July 20th at 7PM to ask this. Hopefully if you are local or in Seattle you can come and Join us. More on Beneful and Burien Toyota/Chevrolet's amazing gifts HERE

Romeo turns 9!!!

Romeo enjoying Morril Off Leash Dog Park in Kent, Wa

Forgot too mention that my big old fluffy dod Romeo turned 9 on the 24th. He had a good day at Morill Meadows Off leash Dog Park in Kent, WA, the weekend before his birthday. Interesting dog park, about the same size as Lakeview, where our off leash park in Burien is supposed to go, with some good, inexpensive amenities that also are recycled.

Nice reuse for old tires
Super simple jumping gates made from Galvanized Elbows and 18" nipples
An example of a climbing apparatus for agility
And another!

Romeo had a great day, the boys got to see a great park and we had some lunch, courtesy of a local eatery! I enjoy days like this one!

Bodine Dog BIscuits

Recently, B-Town DOG held a bake sale, on Valentines Day. So I came up with three recipes for dog cookies, so the four legged loves could have a treat. Here is the first one... From Miss Paulla Deen,

BODINE BISCUITS
3/4 cup nonfat Milk
1 Egg
1 cup Peanut Butter, smooth
2 1/4 to 2 1/2 cups Whole Wheat Flour
1 tablespoon Baking Powder

PreHeat - 325°
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the milk, egg and peanut butter. Add in the flour and baking powder to make a very stiff dough, using your hands to work in the last of the flour if necessary. NOTE: I did all of this in my CuisineArt with a dough blade. I would imagine you could do in a Kitchen Aid or some other like appliance. Most homemade dog biscuits do well with 1 part liquid to 3 parts dry. You can customize the recipe by adding and subtracting ingredients your dog likes.)
Flour a work surface and roll out dough to a 1/4” thickness.  Cut into desired sizes depending on the size of your dog. Bake on a parchment lined baking tray for approximately 20 minutes. Turn biscuits over and bake for an additional 15 minutes. Remove from oven and allow to cool completely before storing in an airtight container.  Bodine’s Dog Biscuits can also be stored in the freezer for up to 3 months.

B-Town DOG is a group of dog owners and dog lovers whom are tasked with raising funds for our city's first ever off-leash dog park. We are holding an silent auction at the local favorite coffee spot, Burien Press, one week from today, August 1st, 6-9 pm. (The Auction itself will run from 7- 8:30 pm). We have many great items donated by both Businesses and individuals, seen here. Everything from Belly Dance peformance to handmade quilts to A truck wheel hibachi! So if you are around the Burien area, stop by and bid... Do it for the dogs!
