Bags On Board Giveaway!

I got a surprize when I looked at the B-town blog. There was a story on the 2010 Boo in Burien, our local halloween festival that featured a pet parade, weiner dog races, kids in costume getting candy and a whole lot of fun stuff. Wait until you see the picture featured in the story:

photo- the b-town blog

Yup it is Romeo in his pumpkin costume being led by some dude with a matching shirt. It was all for a good cause- The entry fee benefitted the Seattle Humane Society. And yes, Romi and I had a great time. In spite of the torrential rain.

Now here is the deal---- Romeo got SWAG! In his goodie bag, along with all the
good treats was a "Bags On Board" dispenser and a roll of Biodegradable BOB Bags, Since Romeo has a BOB dispenser, or rather 4 of them, 1 official one and 3 of the ones I make from prescription pill bottles ( One for each leash), he is willing to give up the swag. Another Romeo giveaway! As Romeo says: "I am keeping all the treats and the dog food, and giving the cat food to Sammy Cat, but you can put the bag thingy up for a give-away since I have one already!" Usual Give Away rules apply. Make a comment to this post, Post will be chosen by Random Number, and good luck to all! Giveaway entry ends on Friday, November 19th at midnight PST.

STAY! GiveAway

Allie and fan, another blog writer turned author Mandy. Mandy's book comes out in October!

Today I had the good fortune to take a day off of work and go and meet Author Allie Larkin, and her great husvand, Jeremy. A quick bio on Allie- she has been around the blog world for awhile with "Allies Answers" which turned into "the Greenists" where she and a bunch of friends take turns writing about ways to green your life and your pets life as well.

As for her book "Stay!" which I reviewed a week or so ago, is a great book. About a girl, the man of her dreams, her best friend (who marries said man of her dreams), the dog of her dreams (which she bought on the internet from Slovakia while drunk on Vodka and Grape Kool Aid (the aftermath of being maid of honor at the wedding of her best friend and man of her dreams) and the vetrinarian of her dreams.

NOW TO THE GIVEAWAY- Since I Rob, got to hear Allie do a reading, I Have a great giveaway... a copy of "Stay". But not just any copy... a copy of Stay signed by the author herself!!! Could be worth millions some day. Especially after Allie wins a Pulitzer, and they make "Stay" into a movie starring Jennifer Aniston or Amy Adams. Hey it could happen.

Anyway the usual entry rules apply- leave a comment to this post. Thats it. Done. The winner will be selected by random a week from now On June 25th at midnight PST.

2nd Blog-iversary Giveaway No 2- A Solar powered work lamp

Anyone who might follow this here blog knows I am a big supporter of alternative energy. In my world, President Obama's economic stimulus would go beyond finding alternative sources of energy and the economic stimulus would provide solar and wind power for all. Screw the fat cats on wall street and car makers in Detroit. Anyway, enough of my political ideology rambling, and on to the give-away- I will send the lucky winner their own little piece of Solar power, An IKEA "Sunnan" work lamp. And since IKEA does the following, it is a TWO-FER!!! (You know how Rob likes the TWO-FERS!):

"Now at IKEA stores worldwide, for every SUNNAN solar-powered lamp sold, one lamp will be given to UNICEF to light up the life of a child.

The first shipments of donated lights are destined for Pakistan, helping
children in camps for people who had to flee their homes, and remote villages in
Balochistan and the North West Frontier province. This unit will enable children
to play, read, write and study at night, even if their homes have no
electricity. Millions of children can’t draw, write or read after sunset,
limiting their horizons and possibly their futures. IKEA hopes our lamps are a
small but important contribution to improving the lives of children in
developing countries.

IKEA has made an especially sturdy SUNNAN for the
developing world, designed to resist the wear and tear of difficult living
situations, including a battery capable of withstanding high temperatures."

from the IKEA Website-Seattle Community and Enviorment page

So you win, a child in a developing country wins! To enter all you have to do is enter a comment, If you have a blogger account with email info- great! If not, please leave a way of contacting you (email addy) - Give-away ends at midnight PST on January 24th. Winner will be picked by Random Number Generator

Butterscotch Crunchers

Y'all know how I can't stick to a recipe. Sometimes it's successfull, sometimes FAIL. This one is Success. At least in my opinion for what that's worth. Anyway I was perusing through the Cook Book in the first of my Blog-Iversary Giveaways, And saw a recipe that sounded kind of strange, yet interesting.
The original Recipe is for a cookie (no baking so might be in the Candy family) Called PB Crunchers. Of course having Butterscotch chips and when peanut butter chips are called for is the first problem in making a recipe to spec. ALso only having walnuts and not Peanuts (as called for) is the second problem. Anyway I did the right thing and used what I had. So here is the recipe:
2 cups of Chow mein noodles (1 can)
1 bag of Butterscotch Chips
1 cup of crushed walnuts

In a medium bowl, melt the Butterscotch chips. I used the microwave on 30% power. You could use a double boiler or the oven I reckon. When the chips are melted, stir in the Chow Mein noodles and nuts. Mix well. Then fast, drop the mixture onto wax paper or parchment paper, a spoonfull at a time. Let cool. That's it. Done. Don't do no more.

I could envision doing something like these using Milk Chocolate Chips and Potato Sticks in place of Chow mein noodles and Butterscotch chips. Only because I love Chocolate covered potato chips. I would think this recipe would be good with White chocolate chips as well.

Somebody pass me the Insulin.

This post is DIY post for Trash to Treasure Tuesday at Reinvented Blog-Why- cause I'm kinda trashy and I changed the recipe.

Well I forgot to have Romeo pick a winner of the Romeo Giveaway last night, buy fear not- we did it today. As for the pick it was by lottery sort of I numbered from 1-6 the comments folks made on the giveaway post, leaving out my own comment, #3, then covered them with a dog cookie and let Romeo pick. My Etsy Shop is now open (Romeo's Giveaway!)

I decided to finally open a shop on Etsy. I call it "Another Man's Treasure". Catchy huh? Well to celebrate I am going to offer one of the things (well actually the only item in my shop right now) up for a giveaway- A dog poop bag holder. The shop describes these as:

" really handy when walking your dog- just clip the Poop Bag Holder onto your
leash or your belt loop and your set. Each poop bag holder is made from a recycled medicine bottle, so you get to help out the Mother Earth as well! Each holder comes with 3 Bio Bags, and a fancy carabineer clip to attach it to your leash or belt loop. You can refill them with bio bags or any brand dog poop bag, as well as reuse grocery bags. Each one holds 3 re-used grocery bags!"

In addition, these can also be used to take bags to the grocery store to be reused, You just need to comment on this post to enter- winner will be picked not by Mr. Random Integer Finder, but by Romeo, my dog hisself, since it was he, or rather his poop that served as the inspiration for this. Entries must be received by and winner will be picked on Friday, November 13th, at Midnight PST.

Book Review: Incredible Vegetables from Self watering Containers and Ed Begley giveaway winner!

Incredible Vegetables from Self Watering Containers By Edward C. Smith
Align Center

Fall is here… now I will start spending my evenings reading gardening books. Happens every year. I came across this book from my library. What I expected was a book on how to make self watering planters. While it does cover that in no great detail, it is a great book on container gardening. Very precise instructions on how to grow container gardens. Especially nice is Ed’s details on a wide variety of plants. He lets you know the right size of pot, How many of each variety to grow in the pot, What pests to watch for, and how to eat what you grow. I am sure there are glitzier books on container gardening, but I have found none that give such good instruction.
I am putting this on my Christmas list this year!
And now the winner of Ed Begley's Guide To Sustainable Living (didn't have to wake Mr. Integer Generator) was the only person who apparently wanted the book- Veronica! Congratulations! Remember to send me your snail mail info to: robj98168@yahoo.com
