Honeysuckle Berries

Surprise! A new berry!!!

I was out in the garden before work and saw these berries growing on my honeysuckle vine. Well I immediately went in and looked up "Honeysuckle Berry" on google and determined they were OK to eat. Kind of like a Kinick Kinick berry but sweeter. Found out while researching them that you can open the honey suckle flower and drink the nectar for a sweet taste treat. Why does nobody mention these things... They are important!!! Note - the berries on my plant are edible- buy most aren't. So add a new one to my "Forage list". Also one of my Columnar Apple trees has apples on it!!!

"Trees are terrific in Cities and Towns" This years Arbor Day theme.
Long before earth day was Arbor Day a day when people celebrated by planting trees. In Washington state, arbor day is officially celebrated on the second Wednesday in April, but nationally it is April 30th. One of the ways I celebrate is Earth Day and sneak in Arbor Day too is plant a tree. This year I am planting a dwarf peach. Last year was the Columnar apples and a cherry tree. Year before that an apple tree. When I first moved into Rancho Flamingo, I planted my yellow chinese plum tree. If I keep it up I will have a nice small orchard in the years to come.

Garden Walk What's Growing On?

First we start with the potato condo- looks like we will have to add a new floor!

Then we check the columnar apples- leaf growth!

The five dollar apple tree I bought on a plant close out sale is coming along as well!

Time to check out the damn broccoli- looks good
